Blog Post: Day 18
Today was kinda rough, not gonna lie. I had a busy day and not a very happy day. No particular reason, just felt a little stressed/depressed. And those feelings tend to bring on the carby/sugary urges. Or shoot, just the “I want to stop and eat out” urges. Even my favorite salad from our local salad bar couldn’t make the cut because the dressing on it is a big no-no for this challenge and happens to be the biggest reason why it’s my favorite salad. Late afternoon was not my friend today.
The day started off innocently enough. Breakfast was sautéed mushrooms, onions and two scrambled eggs topped with fresh parsley. A favorite of late.
Quick snack time in between clients was a sliced banana with freshly ground almond butter, topped with a tablespoon of hemp seed and a tablespoon of raw cacao nibs. And a nice cup of herbal tea. Ahh. Day still going well. Minus the rushed break. Oh and client showed up way early which may have prompted a little stress response knowing she was waiting outside while I prepared a pick-up lunch for my baby girl. Hmm…que cortisol perhaps?
After work I rushed home because for some reason I was starving. Sweet hubs had lunch ready to go, which was leftover mock tuna salad wrapped in collards and a nice hot cup of coffee to help kick my sleepy butt into jumpstart…more cortisol response???
I think my system was a little overworked and I needed to get out of the house suddenly! The combination of a house full of kids [step sons were here for the weekend too so we had 4 babes under the age of 7 all vying for our attention], a slightly stressful day, and not the best sleep, all got the best of me. What I probably should have done was gone and worked out but I thought a drive would be better. I decided a little retail therapy at Target would do the trick. During my shopping trip I found myself starving. Don’t think I was really hungry, but I was practically drooling over the little packs of goldfish at the register. I don’t even particularly like goldfish. I stayed strong though and took my overstressed butt home, made myself a fruit & fat laden smoothie [coconut water, mango, banana, kale, coconut oil, chia seed] took a B vitamin and lots of deep breaths. Ahhhh…. I managed to jump over the mental hump. And into a complete 180. In fact, I finished the touch-up painting in our bedroom, rearranged furniture, pulled down old curtains and put on a new duvet and pillows. Okay, a fresh start, even if it was 5pm.
Dinner was zucchini pasta with homemade marinara with a side of garlic yuca. Love that garlic yuca! And get this, hubby cooked for us all! Yay. The last bit of stress just melted away (after all kids were in bed of course). As my sweet two year old would say, “bye bye see ya”.
